1) Introduction
Review the seven days of creation
Day 1: light and darkness.
Day 2: water and sky
Day 3: land and plants
Day 4: sun, moon and stars.
Day 5: birds and fish
Day 6: animals and man.
Day 7: God “rested”.
Show pictures of each day.
Can the children put them in the correct order? What was the name of the first man? What was the name of the first woman? Today’s story from the Bible explains how
God made the first man and woman.
2) The Creation of Adam & Eve
Man was formed from the dust of the earth on the sixth day of Creation, and God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. God had prepared a garden in the eastern portion of the land of Eden for man to live in. The garden included trees that produced food and were pleasant to view. In the middle of the garden were two special trees — the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of
Good and Evil.
God gave man the job of caring for the garden and commanded man not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. He was permitted to eat from any tree but that one. God warned the man that when he ate of that tree, he would surely die. God said that it was not good for the man to be alone and planned to make a suitable helper for him.
He brought all the animals and birds to the man, Adam, to see what he would name them. Whatever Adam called each creature became its name.
But no helper was found for Adam. God caused him to fall into a deep sleep, removed one of his ribs, and closed up the wound. God made the woman out of Adam’s rib and brought her to him.
Adam responded, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”
The man and woman were both naked and were not ashamed.
