Lesson 1: How All Things Began

Aim
* to learn what God created on each day
* to learn that God made all things for us


Materials
* Children’s Bible story of the six days of creation with pictures (The Beginners Bible by Karyn Henley)
* Picture cards of each day of creation
* Pictures for children to cut-out and stick on paper in the correct order
* A4 white paper or card for making creation book
* glue stick, scissors,

1) Introduction
Ask children who made the world. Who made the sun? Who made water? Who made animals? etc…

Explain that God made everything a long time ago. Today we will hear a story about when God made the world

 


2) Story & Discussion
* Read the story of the six days of creation. Discuss each picture
1) God made light out of darkness. He called the light day and the darkness night.
2) God made the sky and put clouds there.
3) God made sea and land. Grass, flowers and trees grew on the land.
4) God made the sun to shine in the day and the moon and stars to shine at night.
5) God made fish to live in the seas and birds to fly in the air
6) God made animals. Then he made the first man, Adam
7) God rested on the seventh day, because he had worked so hard to create everything.

  • What is the correct order of pictures?

  • What did God say at the end of each day?

  • What did God say at the end of the 6th day?

  • What is God’s most important creation?

  • Who did God make everything for?

 

3) Activities
* Make a display of pictures to show the correct order of creation
* Make a creation book. Fold paper or card. Cut and paste pictures of each day in the correct order
* Which is the missing picture? Display the pictures face up. Children turn away. Take one picture away
* Which picture is missing?
* Play the memory game using pairs of pictures of each day of creation

 

4) Review aims of lesson
* to learn what God created on each day
* to learn that God made all things for us

Questions
* How many days did it take God to create? – 6
* What did God do on the 7th day – rest
* Who did God create on the 6th day? – Adam & Eve
1. Tell story using paper plates with pictures of each day of creation.
2. Do actions as you tell the story. “And God saw that it was good”

5) Prayer
* Say a prayer to thank God for creating such a beautiful world and for creating each one of us.
