1) Introduction about Rules
What rules do your parents have? bedtimes, mealtimes, brushing teeth, etc…
What rules do your teachers have? hands up, work quietly, playtime etc..
Do you like having rules? Is it good to have rules? Why?
Does God have rules about how we should live? Today’s lesson is about God’s rules
2) God’s Rules
Moses’ Ten Commandments
– Show picture of Moses. ask children to tell you the story behind it. (Moses went up the mountain and fasted for 40 days. God spoke and wrote 10 rules or commandments on two tablets of stone). Ask children to tell you any of the commandments they know. Display each one that they get correct and finally show all of them.
1. You shall have no other gods before me.
2. You shall not make any idols or pray to other gods
3. You shall not misuse the name of God
4. You shall keep the seventh day as a holy day and a day of rest
5. Honor your father and your mother
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not lie
10. You shall not be jealous of other people
Jesus’ two Commandments
Do the children know what they are?
1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
2. Love your neighbor as yourself
Love God
Matthew 22:36-40
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest
commandment. What does it mean to love God?
Love your neighbor
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” What does it mean to love your neighbour? Who is your neighbour?
3) Comparing the Commandments
Jesus simplified the 10 commandments into 2 commandments. Some of the 10 are about loving God and some are about loving your neighbour.
Which of Moses commandments are about loving God? – numbers 1-4
1. You shall have no other gods before me.

4) The Good Samaritan
Jesus told a story about being a good neighbour. Tell the story.
What can we learn from the story?
