REVIEW & TRANSITION: We’ve learned all about our body and that our senses are a gift from God! We learned about our: eyes (sight), ears (hearing), nose (smelling), mouth (tasting), hands (touching) & feet! Give me Five: We also learned that good listeners: sit crisscross & have looking eyes, listening ears, zipped lips & quiet hands. Let’s sing the songs we learned! (Sung to the tune of Farmer in the Dell)

“I use my eyes to see. I use my eyes to see. Hi, Ho, Did you know? I use my eyes to see!” “I use my ears to hear… “I use my nose to smell… “I use my mouth to taste… “I use my hands to touch… “I use my feet to walk…

ATTENTION GRABBER:

  • Draw a big heart! Ask children: What did I draw? What is a heart? It represents love, kindness, generosity, giving, sharing, goodness. (Children may also want to take turns trying to draw a heart on the whiteboard.)

  • Stethoscope- Listen to each child’s heart with a pretend stethoscope. Ask children what you’re listening to.

INTRO: Today we’ll learn about our heart!

VIDEOS:

READ ALOUD:  Books on Love / Books on Friendship Read a story about the heart of love- about giving and receiving love, helping, lifting others up and sharing joy together.

*TEACHING POINT 1: God Gave Us A Heart to Love!

SONG:I use my heart to love. I use my heart to love. Hi, Ho, Did you know? I use my heart to love!” (Farmer in the Dell)

TEACHING with DISCUSSION: Our body is a wonderful gift from God. Our Heavenly Parent loves us so much that he created us each unique and & beautiful.

Physical Heart: We have our external, physical heart. Can everyone point to their heart? That’s right! Let’s put our hand on our heart and see if we can feel the heartbeat. Can you feel your pulse on your arm? A Dr. can listen to our heart using a stethoscope! (It beats about 100 times/minute! Our heart pumps oxygen & nutrients through our blood to our entire body! It’s very important to keep our heart healthy by eating healthy, exercising & getting rest!)

Internal Heart: We also have an internal, emotional heart! We are made in the image of God. Just as God loves us- He gave us the ability to love. God gave us our heart to love. <3 Love is the happy feeling we get from our heart. When we share our love with others- they get warm fuzzies! How can we spread warm fuzzies to others? What makes your heart happy? (Hugs, kisses, listening, sharing, showing new things, giving a present, help Mommy & Daddy, be an example for my younger siblings.) Jesus taught us that God loves us very much. True Parents teach us that we should create a happy family centered upon God’s love. Our parents do their best to show us love every day, even in little ways! Our teachers, aunties, uncles, coaches, friends also show us they love us in different ways!

Five Love Languages- We all feel love in different ways and that’s ok! Some people feel love through a hug, a gift, quality time, by helping someone, saying nice words. How do you feel love? When someone gives us love- we want to return love by saying “Thank you” our showing our appreciation. Love goes on in a circle of giving and receiving!

Learning Game:

Song: Make a circle, make a circle, big and round, big and round, everybody hold hands, everybody hold hands, let’s sit down. Let’s sit down! (Tune of Frere Jacque)

Circle Game: Sitting in a circle, practice sending a hand squeeze (or passing an actual item like a ball) around in a circle! Love goes around and around between people. We pass on our love and receive love. It’s a continuous circle!

Our hearts, conscience & soul remind us to do goodness. What are ways that we can perform random acts of kindness to bring joy to others? (Smile at someone, give a hug, share a toy, donate a toy, make our bed, clean up without being asked, help a friend, make a card for someone, let someone else go first…)

Sing Together: “I love you, you love me! We’re a happy family! With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you! Won’t you say you love me too?” (Barney theme song)

Activities: (choose 1)

  • Musical Hearts: Have children play a game of musical hearts! Each child takes turns picking a heart and everyone does the action the heart tells us to do! Can also expand practicing colors and holding hearts up, down, right, left.

  • Pin the Heart: Play a pin the heart game on to a drawing of a person! Play it blindfolded- and have children practice taking turns & cheering each other on!

  • Kindness Yoga Flow: Sometimes our heart feels upset. To be kind to others- we need to calm ourselves & let God’s love and energy flow through us first. Let’s practice some yoga poses that can help us do this!

  • Clean Up Game: dump a bucket of clothing and sing the Clean Up Song as children help put it all back into the bin! This teaches helping & working together!

  • Obstacle Course: set up a simple obstacle course for children to complete one at a time. Children practice taking turns & cheering on their friends, showing a big heart!

CONCLUSION:

So, who can tell me what we did today? Pair Share. God gave us our heart! Our physical heart beats fast & pumps blood through our body. God gave us an internal heart to love and help others.

TITHING & PRAYER:

Dear Heavenly Parent, thank you for giving us a heart to love! We can feel your love in creating us when we feel our heart beat. Just like you love us, we want to love others! Amen. Aju!
