We are not entering a new unit for the month of May. Does anyone know what special holiday happens in May? (Mother’s Day!) That’s right! During the month of May we will be learning all about the feminine aspect of God our Heavenly Parent- A Mother’s Love.

    • Planting Seeds Poem

When a mommy hugs her children, She plants a seed of love.

And all her wonderful kisses, Come from God above.

When a mommy laughs and giggles, She plants a seed of joy

Like when she tickles your funny bone, Or plays with your favorite toy.

When a mommy tucks you in at night, She plants a seed of peace

She prays for God to bless you, With a sweet and restful sleep.

*TEACH the Lesson:

Discuss the following points together, asking children questions, drawing pictures, using anchor charts or post it notes.

TEACHING POINT 1: A Mother’s Love

(Note- if there is a child in the class that does not have a Mommy- refer to their special caregiver- Auntie, Grandma- whoever God has placed in their lives to be the nurturer.)

  • Ask children “What made your mom a mom?” You did! Your mom was not a mom until God gave her children. You make your mom a very special Mommy!

  • You began inside your mommy’s belly. Mother’s take great care of their children, even when they are inside their bellies! Mommies eat healthy and watch their baby grow inside of her belly. Mommy’s even feed their baby milk by nursing or with a bottle. (Mommies who adopt also prepare for their child by making a beautiful nursery, praying for baby and getting things ready.)

  • Mommy’s have a special heart for their children. Mothers are nurturing. Moms are loving. Mommies give kisses for boo boos, pack lunchbox, cook, clean the home. Sometimes mommies worry. Mommies are busy taking care of everyone, organizing and multi tasking. Every mommy is different. Some mommies work. Some mommies stay at home with you. (Some daddies work or some daddies stay at home.)

  • Next Sunday is Mother’s Day! And we are going to be thinking about your Mommy & making special crafts for her over these next 2 Sundays. This week we want you to think about all the things you love and appreciate about your Mommy.

  • Mommies aren’t always perfect. Sometimes Mommies even make mistakes, maybe they get upset, or emotional. Mommies are still learning and growing how to be the best Mommy they can be. Just like you’re learning to be the best child you can be! But Mommy always loves you.

  • As God is our Heavenly Parent- he has a feminine Motherly heart too and also loves us unconditionally and sees us as his little children in the same way that Mommies do.

TEACHING POINT 2: SEEds of love*OPTIONAL EXTENSION

Discuss Proverbs 22:6 together: “Train up a child in the way they should “GROW”, and they will not turn from it.”

  • Thanks for the good roots mom! Patience, Strength, Joy, Faith, Kindness Read, act out and discuss the full poem “Planting Seeds” together found above.

GROUP ACTIVITY:

  • Draw a flower with roots. Have children help you label the roots with post it notes or pictures or words of what their mom teaches them. Ex: patience, love. Our parents give us deep roots that anchor us in life and help us grow into beautiful sons and daughter of God our Heavenly Parent!

CONCLUSION:

We are so grateful for a Mother’s love. Mommies are loving, nurturing, sacrificial. They try their best to take care of everyone. God is our Heavenly Parent and loves us unconditionally in the same way our Mothers do. This week let’s prepare our hearts for Mother’s Day. Let’s think about all the things Mommies do for us and next Sunday on Mother’s Day we’ll make her feel extra special!

TITHING &  PRAYER:

Dear Heavenly Parent, Thank you for a Mommy’s love! Thank you for showing us kindness, joy, patience, love and peace through our Mothers. We are grateful for your parental heart and we want to be good children for our Mommies and Daddies. Amen. Aju!
