Children will learn about True Mother, Hak Ha Han Moon’s life and mission. Children will be inspired to trust in God like she did and to consider how they can make a difference in bringing peace to the world.

“True Mother” Unit: A Mother’s Heart
LESSON PURPOSE: Children will learn about True mother’s life and her mission as the mother of peace.
MATERIALS: Picture Book, learning toys, craft supplies
BOOKS: Korean culture picture books /Mama Do You Love Me?

SENSORY CENTERS: AS CHILDREN ARRIVE
Rice sensory bin: fill a bin with rice, cups, spoons & funnels.
Chopsticks sensory play: Provide kids chopsticks and have children move marshmallows or pom poms with chopsticks into a container! Or let children play with noodles!
SCRIPTURE: Display the weekly scripture reading, have an older child read it or use it in the lesson as you like.

REVIEW & TRANSITION:
For the last 2 weeks we’ve been learning about a Mother’s love- how much our Mommies love us and how we can do our best to honor our Mothers. Today we will learn all about a very special woman who is an exemplary daughter of God our Heavenly Parent.
ATTENTION GRABBER: choose 1:
Photo of True Mother: show children a photo of True Parents. Point to True Mother- and ask children who she is. What do you know about her?
Put on a Ham Bok: show it off to children. Ask them if they know where it’s from? What it’s called? Who might wear it? (Or show other korean related props)
INTRO:
Today we are going to learn about Hak Ja Han Moon whom we call our True Mother! We will learn about her life and role as our True Mother.

Discuss the following points together, asking children questions, drawing pictures, using anchor charts or post it notes.
TEACHING POINT 1: True Mother
Tell the story using photos, a Korean flag, map, globe, props or drawing images as you speak.
Did you know True Mother’s name is Hak Ja Han? True Mother was born in the village of Sinli, North Korea on January 6, 1943. Her Mother Mrs. Hong was a dedicated Christian and her Father was a disciple of a famous preacher. (At the time, they were persecuted a lot for their faith.) One night- her Grandmother, Mother and little Hak Ja Han had to secretly leave their hometown. God kept their family safe as they travelled from North Korea to South Korea to escape a war.
Young Hak Ja Han grew up with her Grandmother & Mother who were both very devoted to God. She was taught from an early age to follow God’s plan for her life. True Mother always knew that God had a special plan for her. Her family had a deep prayer life and her Grandmother and Mother taught her well. Together they joined the Unification Church started by True Father and it was revealed that she had a very special mission- to get Blessed in Holy Marriage to True Father- Sun Myung Moon and that she would become True Mother. Together they would become True Parents.
Even though she was young- she committed to marrying True Father and fulfilling her role as a devoted wife and Mother to her 14 children. She was also a Mother to many church members all over the world. She always took care of everyone around her and attended her husband to help him share God’s Words. (After she went through a special learning course, True Mother began her role.) She encouraged women all over the world through establishing WFWP to promote peace. True Mother teaches that peace starts with me and she brings God’s Motherly heart to solving world problems. She helped establish the Little Angels Korean folk ballet, helped build schools for children in Africa and worked with True Father to create many other church organizations. She has traveled all over the world, spoken to crowds of thousands and met Presidents!
Not only does True Mother love the world- she loves you! True Mother together with True Father- raised up many of your Grandparents and Parents with a lot of love and teachings. There is a story of an early church member Barbara Vincenz. One day at HDH morning devotion, Barbara complimented True Mother on her lovely dress. After breakfast, True Mother came in a different outfit and handed the beautiful dress to Barbara telling her that she should have it. This shows us the heart of True Mother. While True Father loves us from Heaven, True Mother is now leading our movement on Earth as the Mother of Peace True Mother has a lot of love for young people. She believes that young people are the future. She wants you to find your special dream and make it happen!

Korean Props:
Pass around Korean props such as: chopsticks, rice, fan, ham bok, yoot, kangi. Look at them together and describe them. Play pick up with chopsticks.
TEACHING POINT 2: What true mother teaches me*OPTIONAL EXTENSION
There is a lot we can learn from True Mother. Discuss together some of the following points:
Why is prayer important?
How did True Mother trust in God, our Heavenly Parent throughout her life? How can we trust in God?
How does “Peace start with me”?
What is your dream? How do you want to help the world? What do you want to be when you grow up?
GROUP ACTIVITY: choose 1 or 2
Show a globe- Discuss and write down or draw ways to help bring about World Peace.
When I grow up game- Have children guess what their friends will be when they grow up. Then have children reveal what they want to be when they grow up.
Yut- Play a game of yut together. (for older children)
CONCLUSION:
We are so happy that God gave us True Parents! We are truly blessed children! True Mother teaches us about God’s Motherly heart to care for the world and bring peace on Earth through true love. She believes in each one of us and wants us to dream big and do great things.

Dear Heavenly Parent, thank you for showing us your Motherly heart through True Mother. Please bless True Mother in all she does. We want to send our gratitude and love to her way and be wonderful children of God, making her proud and becoming peace makers. Amen. Aju!

CRAFTS: choose 1
True Mother coloring pages: Have children color the coloring pages with crayons or water colors! Hak Ja Han / Mother of Peace
Korean Culture Printables: Have children color in the Korean map or flags.
Korean Paper doll: Have children color & cut out the Korean paper doll girl. Explain that True Mother dressed like this as a little child- the special dress is called a Ham Bok.
Paper Fans: have children paint flowers or the Korean flag & help them fold them in to fans. Show photos or a video of the Little Angels fan dance.

SNACK IDEAS:
Korean food: Make simple versions of Mini Gimbap, Bi Bim Bap or pat bing su- shaved ice dessert. Talk about how in Korea there are lots of dishes spread around the table and chopsticks are used to share all of the different vegetables and side dishes together.
Chopsticks: serve fruit, rice or noodles and have children try using kids chopsticks to eat!
